The Education Service for Bedford Museum and the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery offers a half day of taught sessions on World War Two. These can take place at any stage in the scheme of work as either an introduction to certain themes or a reinforcement of work in school.

Visit Bedford Museum and the Cecil Higgins Art GalleryMaude’s Suitcase

Pupils will meet Maude, a 1940s’ housewife, who shares her experiences of life on the Home Front through the contents of her suitcase.  Air raids, rationing, Make Do and Mend and evacuation are all considered through role play and original artefacts.

The Home Front

Two pupils enjoy the chance to dress as evacuees. Pupils consider the experience of evacuation and the sorts of items that children took with them.

Visits can take place morning or afternoon. For further details and to book a school visit to the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery and Bedford Museum please see > Organising a Visit or phone 01234 217418.
