The 6 and 12-week schemes of work are based on QCA Art & Design scheme Unit 4B Take a Seat for Key Stage 2 but also meet many Design & Technology criteria. Examples of pupils' work and comments about the lessons are shown on the Lesson outcomes page.

You can download and save the 6-week or 12-week scheme of work and individual lesson plans as Word documents which you can then adapt to your own needs. The scheme highlights activities and resources on this site.

The aims include introducing children to a range of period chairs in the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, Bedford. A visit to the Gallery brings these chairs to life in Victorian room settings. The online resources and interactives enable pupils to investigate the chairs in some detail and to consider how their design has been influenced by style, materials, purpose and technology

Information about the chairs has been left off the Photo Gallery to enable pupils to make their own judgements about materials, age and purpose.

In addition children have the opportunity to design, make and evaluate their own model chair following the inspiration of studying chairs from the past and present.
