We strongly recommend a visit to the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery and
Bedford Museum as part of studying the influence of nature on design.
Ideally, a visit should take place after practising drawing skills
in school and before starting designing and making a collage.
During their visit pupils can enjoy two hour-long sessions. These
can be adapted to suit each school’s specific requirements:
Natural objects enables pupils to study and
draw a range of animals in the Museum’s collection including
mammals, birds, insects and shells. Attention is drawn to shape,
form, texture, pattern and colour.
Designed objects enables
pupils to study and draw a range of artefacts where the form or decoration
has been influenced by nature. Time is given for discussion and detailed
drawing.
Visits can take place morning or afternoon and two classes can
visit at the same time.
