A visit to the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery
and Bedford Museum could take place at any stage in the scheme of
work as an introduction to or reinforcement of work in school.
During their visit pupils will enjoy four half-hour activity sessions
on toys of the past:

Life in the Nursery offers a glimpse into the Nursery lives
of wealthy Victorian children such as Cecil Higgins who once lived
in the Gallery’s mansion. The role of nanny and children’s
pastimes are considered and pupils enjoy a look at the contents
of the Toy Cupboard.
Toy making enables children
to make a simple paper toy based on an original Victorian metamorphoses
game
Toys of the Past introduces
children to the range of Victorian and Edwardian toys and games
in the Museum and to consider their materials and how they were
used.

Toy Handling offers children
the chance to play with our collection of reproduction Victorian
and Edwardian toys and games and to learn how they operated in a
time before electricity and batteries.
Visits can take place morning or afternoon.
