LIFELONG LEARNING

The Cecil Higgins Art Gallery will be closed until 2009 due to refurbishment.  Two historic buildings in the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery and Bedford Museum complex are to be refurbished thanks to a £2.5 million award by the Department for Communities and Local Government. Additional spaces for exhibitions, events and corporate hospitality will be created, and storage conditions for the wonderful collections of the Art Gallery and Museum will be improved.  The refurbishment of Bedford Gallery is the first phase of planned total refurbishment of Art Gallery and Museum facilities.

Bedford Museum will remain open and a joint programme of activities aimed at families and adult learners will take place.  The Museum also offers an enquiry and identification service in areas within the scope of the collections and expertise of staff. A regular reminiscence group is run on the first Thursday of the month and groups are able to borrow reminiscence boxes.
